Think it is about time I got this site that my son designed for me up and running. I have always been a big dog (and cat) person --- that is until I met Maggie. Use to do volunteer work at my local animal shelter and on one Saturday I noticed a small (13 lbs.)dirty, matted and in obvious pain dog. Her hair was so matted that she could not even go to the bathroom. I was told that it would be taken care of on Monday! ! ! ! Well, to make a long story short, when I went home Sat. afternoon I took her with me. A trip to the dog wash and a not very good dematting (of the butt) made a big difference in this little furbaby. On Monday morning I got a call that what I had done was a felony and that I needed to bring her back to the shelter. I did so and silently took the scolding from the staff. Put my name on her card to adopt her as soon as the 5 day waiting period was up. That is how Maggie and I came to live together. She slowly came out of her shell. She was not a young girl and had obviously not had a good life at least in the last few years. Probably another case of her owner having to go to a nursing home or dying and no one in the family wanting to take care of her. PLEASE consider how your animals will be taken care of if you are not able to. I have a special bank account set up for them and one of my sons has the ability to obtain the funds to look after my animals. Maggie and I took lots of walks around the yard when I got home from work about midnight. That was about as much exercise as she wanted and I loved our time together. Maggie only lived less than a year. She had multiple system failure. My heart was broken. But as often happens, on her way over the rainbow bridge she told several other little dogs where I lived and she sent them to comfort me. Last December I adopted a little Peke out of a puppy mill. She was VERY pregnant and delivered 7 puppies. One died but the other 6 were healthy. I fostered the puppies for a local rescue group headed by my friend Shannon, well, in fact she is just about the rescue group along with her husband Bill. Shannon has a heart of gold and takes care every day of about 26 dogs and I don't know how many cats. Bill is very quiet but loves each and every one of the animals and works tirelessly taking care of, transporting, and other chores too many to count. When the puppies were 5 weeks old their mother Naomi got out of my fence and got hit by a car. I again was heart broken. Shannon had a very special spot in her heart for Naomi and was also devastated. Naomi seemed to spread gold dust over everything and everyone she touched and she is terribly missed. I kept 2 of her pups, Tiffany aka Miss Thing (pup with an attitude)and Lewis (pup with a heart of gold). I have also in the last year adopted a little cinnamon colored old Peke and Leon who looks like a Peke/Pom. Leon is deaf probably from years of chronic ear infections. Them along with my 7 cats and three large dogs make up the family who live in my house. Quite a difference from one little dog from the shelter. Anyhow ---- I dedicate this site to Maggie whom I love and will never forget but would like to let her know that she has sent enough others to take her place.

I want this site to be a place where we can share happy and sad stories of our fur babies, tips, new information on diets, dealing with itching skin, etc. Will also be posting pictures of the custom dog beds that Shannon I made and sell to help with cost of homeless animals. So, please join in and talk about one of my very favorite things - PEKE'S and other dogs (or cats)

Great Post

I agree, Maggie did her job of opening our hearts and eyes towards the small dogs. What an absolute joy they have been, never a dull moment! Like you said, she has now sent enough little ones your way! Any more "small attitude", might be a bit much! I'm so proud of your effort of exploring new avenues (this blog) to get the message out, and doing even more for our furry companions! You are one of my heroes and I love you dearly :)
